Conflict, The Police And The People

The book provides worthy contributions in understanding Conflict and Conflict resolution in a holistic manner involving Police and General Public in India. The research for the project involved 1813 police personnel and 1010 civilians sharing their perspective over conflict and conflict resolution strategies. The project also visualizes a bigger picture by reflecting difficulties and functionalities during police and public interactions.

The book divides into five parts with the first part summarizing the objectives and methodology. Part two deals with the theoretical meaning of conflict and conflict resolution and reveals a plethora of knowledge and case studies of conflicts among public and police in International and Indian contexts. Part three investigates the perception of general public in India towards policing system. Part four focusses on the perception of Superintendents of Police, Station House Officers and Constables about the causes of conflict with general public and about their functioning, challenges and limitations. Lastly, part five intends to propose recommendations about mediation, facilitation, police reforms and community engagement in the field of conflict resolution with an insight about the best practices on conflict resolution strategies between public and police.
